Story Behind the Need:

• Business croup: Cloud Engineering
• Team is under taking a critical modernization initiative to build an enterprise4wide cloud platform on Google Cloud. This platform v/111leverage Kubernetes and Terraform to enables Scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure.
• Project: The role of the Senior Cloud Engineer operates within the Modern App Platform Engineering team. This valuable member of the team will be responsible for creating platform components and services for the broad enterprise use.
• The goal is to meet delivery timelines and maintain high quality – need to augment the team with contractors who bring specialized expertise and additional capacity. This is essential to support the successful delivery of several key components of the GKE buildout.

Typical Day in Role:

• Key accountabilities include development management, and maintenance of cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of common cloud functionality.
• Technical ownership/leadership of enterprise cloud product(s) or a complex part of a larger product including the design, software, and processes necessary for ongoing operations.
• Designing, implementing, and refactoring code.
• Participating in design discussions focused on scalability, design, and implementation best practices.
• Ensuring software, programs, and applications are developed and/or configured to meet high availability, integrity, and reliability requirements.
• Working with other lead engineers and architects on designing solutions and breaking-down, scoping, and estimating tasks.
• Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, attending stand-ups, etc.
• Be able to build and operate the highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.
• Our teams are flexible and fast, requiring daily peer review and quality control.

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

• 5+ years’ of relevant experience as a developer/ software engineer/ cloud engineer
• 1+ year experience with containerized applications: Kubernetes, GKE
• 1+ year experience with laC: Terraform
• 5+ years’ proven experience in cloud development (Google GCP, Microsoft Azure, AWS- in order of preference) with domain expertise in cloud platform features and capabilities
• Experience with design for scalable, enterprise-level software systems (both on code and infrastructure levels).

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• Full stack experience in product development
• Experience within Canadian financial institutions
• Knowledge of software design patterns, infrastructure architecture, DevOps, and security considerations.
• Expert in either a modern technology stack, building platforms, or in Client’s legacy systems.
• Experience in technical leadership of small-sized technical teams in delivering production solutions.
• Experience in delivering enterprise systems collaborating and driving solutions with multiple teams across the organization.
• Experience with networking in a multi cloud hybrid environment

Education:

• Bachelor (equivalent or higher) degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline.

Best VS. Average Candidate:

• Experience with GKE will be prioritized – Experience with building enterprise grade system, doing enterprise work with GKE. If they have a background with security that will be an asset. Strong networking skills would be helpful
• Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and cloud platform/components/services development.
• Understanding of software development life cycle as well as related technologies, and software release process (environments, binary repositories, Cl/CD).
• Strong in networking, one in Cl/CD, looking for variety in the pool of candidates
